‘What’s Shastri’s Role?’ Fans Discuss As Dhoni, Kohli & Sharma Get Credit For Team-Building

One of the most popular questions surrounding Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s new role as the mentor of the Indian cricket team during the T20 World Cup 2021 was about how well would he fit with the head coach of the squad, Ravi Shastri and how would the two divide coaching and mentoring assignment between themselves.

With more and more pictures appearing from the Indian campaign in which Dhoni can be seen sharing his expertise with players like Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, and being more visible on the ground, fans have begun to ask what Shastri, as the head of the coaching department, as to offer to the team that Dhoni isn’t already offering.

Dhoni- Process , Kohli - Intent , Rohit - Communicate , What will be Shastri strategy ? Only funny answers please :)

And it did not take long for the trolling supporters of the Men in Blue to get back on their old habits of teasing the Indian coach:

Follow the process and instructions in the bottle. Drink with Intent. Call your ex and communicate. That’s his strategy

At this rate, Ravi Shastri's biggest achievement will be not getting summoned by NCB

Thankfully, there were some people who saw beyond the obvious trolling and actually acknowledged the facts that Shastri remains one of the easiest targets to make fun of in the Indian cricketing fraternity and that there are several reasons why he is considered to be one of the best coaches this squad has had the honour to get trained under.

Poor man , he’s one of the most targeted person in list of all Indian cricket team coaches

How cruel social media and Life can be!! He is definitely one of the most successful coaches regardless of unnecessary meme won 2 overseas series in aus and almost 1 in England..
If india wins credit will go to Dhoni but if unfortunately we loose Virat and ravi will be ripped off

Keeping aside all the trolling, u have to give credit to him for creating such a fear-less side. The fact that he took it upon his shoulders to make Rohit one of the best test match opening batsman tells us what Ravi is all about

Kickass. So that, all 4 strategies can be termed as PICK
(Process, Intent, Communicate, Kickass)

Coach and manager should be a facilitator! I don’t understand what is the KPI that people think of Ravi Shastri. He able to get so many people to help without getting his ego hurt is good quality. I doubt many would do that in international sports. However as coach he is limited

The T20 World Cup 2021 is Ravi Shastri’s last assignment as the head coach of the Indian cricket team and his tenure ends shortly after. Following the tournament, the former Indian skipper will go into the cooldown period which has been established by the BCCI to avoid fatigue and offer a fair trial to other possible candidates for the role of the most highly paid cricketing coach in the world.

Additionally, Shastri has also confirmed that he has no intentions of coming back as the head coach once the cooldown period is over. The BCCI have already announced that former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid will be replacing Shastri as the head coach ahead of New Zealand’s tour of India in November.

As far as his chemistry with Dhoni is concerned, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had recently told the media that the coach was rather willing to have ‘Captain Cool’ become a part of the supporting staff as the team could use his experience in winning ICC tournaments.

“I spoke to the captain (Virat Kohli) and vice-captain (Rohit Sharma), as well as Ravi Shastri. They all are on the same page, so that’s why this matter has reached this conclusion (of creating a special ‘mentoring’ position for MS Dhoni).”
