Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took to his social media handle and sincerely urged people to take part in the auction of gifts and mementos that he has received over a due period of time. The reason behind his well thought initiative is that the proceeds from these sales are intended to be sent towards the "Namami Gange" initiative.
Over time, I have received several gifts and mementos which are being auctioned. This includes the special mementos given by our Olympics heroes. Do take part in the auction. The proceeds would go to the Namami Gange initiative.https://t.co/Oeq4EYb30M pic.twitter.com/PrF44YWBrN— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) September 19, 2021
The list of these mementos and gifts includes some exclusive sports equipment that belongs to India's Olympics and Paralympics superstars, which includes things like badminton rackets of Krishna Nagar and S L Yathiraj, and Olympic winner Neeraj Chopra's javelin. Needless to say, these garnered the highest amount in the bids. While a lot of Indians are wholeheartedly supporting this cause and trying to do their bit, some people are divided on how and why this is necessary. The initiative and this auction has garnered a lot of mixed reactions.

First read what a Gift is?
A gift once executed, the donor has no right over that gift.
Donee has all the right to dispose of this gift as he or she desires..
Also, Modi isnt going to pocket the realisations accruing due to auction of these Gifts..Money is going for Namami Gange. https://t.co/T3eGpGCTKV
Some even out rightly called it a ‘prank’’ and believed it to be a joke.
Today in an online auction of sports memorablia gifted to PM Modi, Bhavani Devi's sabre & para shuttler Suhas Yathiraj's racket got crazy bids of 10cr while Neeraj Chopra's winning javelin 'only' got 1.5 cr. Turns out the bids were fake and were quietly removed. Solid prank. pic.twitter.com/6FmGEK1oe8— jonathan selvaraj (@jon_selvaraj) September 17, 2021
Dont say money goes to govt.. Has the govt become such a Bhikari it wants to get some 20-50 crs from auctions?.. FOR WHAT? For the lipstick crap of Modi? Think better than stupid money.. People dont even sell their mother's kitchen vessels.. LOL! @sri9011 https://t.co/e2p89DdWTm— PolitiCrooks (@PolitiCrooks) September 19, 2021

The ‘Namami Gange’ initiative is a drive meant to serve the purpose of cleaning the holy river of Ganges and support the work for its reservation.
