Double nomination for comeback king Roger Federer for 2018 Laureus World Sports Awards

Tennis legend Roger Federer was a part of a double nomination as an impressive collection of the greatest men, women, and teams in sport were selected this week for the 2018 Laureus World Sports Awards which is to be held on February 27.

The nominations of the Awards, commonly regarded as the Oscar of sports, were finalised after a ballot by the world’s sports media.

The impressive return to form after a knee injury by the Swiss saw him win his fifth Australian Open and eighth Wimbledon titles, which has helped him earn nomination in both the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year and Laureus World Comeback of the Year sections.

Significantly, Federer is also a current four-time Award winner and could become the most decorated Laureus Award winner at the 2018 ceremony to be held in Monaco.

The football world also featured its name heavily in different categories, with Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo up for Laureus World Sportsman of the Year while Real Madrid is nominated for Laureus World Team of the Year. France Youngster Kylian Mbappé is in contention for Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year and lastly, Spanish giants FC Barcelona and Chapecoense have been nominated for the Laureus World Comeback of the Year Award.

Interestingly, a group of the greatest para-athletes of previous year makes up the incredible team of nominees for the Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability category.

The winners of the Awards, as voted for by members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, will be announced in Monaco on February 27.
