India signs drug agreement with Cuba

India reached an agreement with Caribbean island nation Cuba to enhance cooperation in the health sector by giving a boost to medical education in the two countries.


J.P.Nadda, Union Health Minister, termed the deal as a historic one and stated that the relations between Cuba and India were always based on shared values of equality and justice.


The ministry of health signed a MoU with Rotary International India in order to accelerate efforts under the polio eradication programme and for routine immunization.


The MOU will prove to be vital in the field of health and medicine between both the countries. It will also help to develop an institutional framework for bilateral cooperation.


Mr.Nadda quoted: "One potential area is pharmaceutical and biotechnology. Cuba has always made commendable strides in the field of bio- technology and pharmaceuticals."


The Health Minister also took up a point to form a joint working group for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding.
