The HRD Ministry has written to states asking to take steps to create awareness about appropriate mechanism and train the school going children to raise their voice against gender based violence. “School-related gender-based violence (SRGBV) affects millions of children, families and communities. It involves acts or threat of sexual, physical or psychological violence occurring in and around schools, perpetrated because of gender norms and stereotypes, and enforced by unequal power dynamics” the letter sent to state reads.
Among the posters shared by the ministry, developed by the UNESCO the poster titled “learning without fear” encompasses a varied range of scenarios which a pupil may come across related to gender based violence and appropriate responses to deal with such circumstances within the school setting.
The HRD Ministry, in order to ensure effective communication has assured the states that training material and the posters will be translated in the regional languages. Considering the snowballing rate of crime in society this seems to be a step in the right direction.
