 THE ART OF BEING SILENT

Silence is essential for peaceful living, yet it is the most wrongly perceived notion by humankind. To experience silence it is prerequisite to understand what silence is. Silence is not just the absence of noise. It can’t be found at a hill top, amidst woods or at a river bank. It is simply put a state of mind. And one doesn’t need to snip off all his ties and sit in isolation to experience it.

The problem is that the silence has always been projected as if it is something which is enforced. The libraries, prayer halls or class rooms made silence look like PAIN; something unwanted yet inevitable.in the process somehow silence has become an antonym of life. We began to associate silence with dead and dull, and that is exactly what made us to chase it while purposely escaping it.

People after a certain point in their lives begin to seek it in all the places where it can’t be sought. People go to hills and visit ashrams, while silence is what our true nature is. We don’t have to seek it. We are silence. The moment we begin to observe our thoughts indifferently we attain silence. The second we detach ourselves with our own thoughts and become a passive bystander just not getting into a mental dialogue provoked by all sort of good and bad thoughts storm through our mind each second, we will reach a beautiful galaxy of silence and that is when you can choose to be silent even during a swarming metro ride.
